About Kenny

I am a product designer with 10 years of experience in the industry, working for various companies in Latin America and the United States. When I'm not working, I enjoy designing and developing apps for personal use.

Me as a kid in the 90'

I was born in Caracas in '91. Since I was a child, I always dreamed of having a computer, and when I finally got one, I became passionate about the internet, video games, and websites. I always say that I started designing at a very young age—I used to trace cartoon characters that I liked. When I graduated from high school, I decided to study illustration, thinking that was what I loved, but after two years, I switched to graphic design when I realized I had chosen the wrong career.

Personal

My wife and I

My journey in product design began a year before graduating as a Graphic Designer in 2014 when I worked at Oppous LLC, a small startup in Caracas that gave me the opportunity to test my skills. There, I designed Playfan, a dating app that emerged around the same time as Tinder, although ours had been in development for a while. We did our best to innovate, but unfortunately, the company shut down due to internal issues, and I decided to take the freelance path.

Stand Up Comedy Show

When I’m not working, I do Stand Up Comedy or watch comedy specials. I also enjoy watching series with my wife and daughter or just go out and have barbecues with friends. I married Angie, an amazing woman who has been by my side since 2016, although we had been friends forever.

In my free time I also like to code and design apps for things I’ll probably never use, but that bring me joy. I’m very curious about technology and, above all, an AI enthusiast. I spend a lot of time looking for news, updates, and more efficient ways to do things.

Work

Cosmos Agencia Creativa
Cosmos Agencia Creativa

Since 2017, I have been navigating two worlds: freelance and corporate. In Venezuela, I had the opportunity to lead my own design studio, Cosmos. It was just my wife, a colleague, and me, but we had fun and explored how to create brands that made an impact on clients in the United States and South America. We handled everything from content creation to website development. In 2018, I migrated to Chile (due to political reasons in my country) and started working at MyHotel, a hotel SaaS that taught me a lot about the B2B world and Software as a Service. I worked there for two years until the pandemic forced us all to switch to remote work. That’s when I started working with Toptal, a digital agency with which I have been collaborating ever since, serving various clients in the United States.

The key to my way of working is my ability to adapt to different environments and needs. Throughout my career, I have developed a comprehensive vision of product design, combining design, coding, and team management. I don’t just create well-structured interfaces or write clean code—I also act as a bridge between designers and developers to ensure effective solutions. Working with both startups and large corporations has allowed me to understand how to scale strategies and adapt processes to different organizational structures.

Leading my own business taught me how to efficiently manage multiple responsibilities, allowing me to refine my project management skills. My freelance experience has led me to face diverse challenges, from optimizing digital experiences to coordinating complex initiatives. More than just executing technical or creative tasks, my focus is on delivering strategic solutions that balance functionality, aesthetics, and efficiency.
